SYREN - Thetis - Creature Concept

The latest piece in my new project 'Syrens', a re-interpretation of ancient Greek mythology set during the golden age of piracy. It focuses on the sirens that lured Odysseus and countless other 'heroes' to their deaths, and who fight to survive against the men warped by the greed of the 18th century. The era of piracy brings it's own trials, the whaling industry is just starting to bring in money, but these ancient gods fetch a lot more per catch for their baleen, oils and voice boxes.

Thetis is a leader of the sirens, with the scars to prove it, having fought off many encounters with the ever tireless pirates and their endless thirst for treasure. Vicious up close and hypnotic from a distance she makes a potent mix, and is the last thing many pirates expect when they go out to hunt 'mermaids'.
